An Evening with Seamus Heaney - sold out!

An Evening with Seamus Heaney - Conversation & Live Poetry
Thursday 26 August 7.30pm

Described by The Guardian as the ‘greatest poet of our age’, this year’s 8th Poetry Prom promises an unforgettable evening in the company of Nobel laureate, Seamus Heaney.

The first half will feature Heaney ‘in conversation’ with Michael Laskey, founder of the Aldeburgh Poetry Festival and a fellow poet. Heaney will be invited to explore his beginnings as a poet and to share some of the principles and encounters that have sustained him on his poetic journey. Enjoy reflections and recollections from a writing career of global significance spanning over forty years.

The annual Poetry Prom, presented in partnership with Aldeburgh Music, is one of the UK’s largest celebrations of live poetry, attracting audiences of nearly 800.

‘Anyone who reads poetry has reason to rejoice at living in the age when Seamus Heaney is writing.’ The New York Times Book Review

In the second half, Heaney will introduce and read a wide selection of his own inimitable and marvellous poems. The Poetry Prom is happily timed to celebrate the publication of his 13th collection, Human Chain from Faber. Advance copies will be available to purchase and Heaney will sign books following the reading.

‘Reading Heaney… you feel what the first readers of, say, Keats’s odes or Milton’s 1645 collection must have felt - the peculiar excitement of watching a new masterwork emerge and take its permanent place in our literature.’ John Carey, The Sunday Times
